Our Vision
We believe progress requires an integrated view of territories, where different spaces, experiences and types of knowledge complement each other. The relationship between rural and urban areas is not a trade-off: it is a shared system where cooperation and balance create better outcomes for people and the environment.
SOLUTOPUS aims to be an active part of this transition supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, contributing to evidence-informed decisions, and strengthening cooperation across stakeholders and sectors.

Our Mission
To contribute to the success of territories, rural areas, and agroforestry while recognising that many solutions depend on wider territorial planning and governance across rural–urban linkages.
We do this by:
- Co-creating social and economic scientific knowledge with partners
- Supporting innovation and adoption through multi-actor processes, and
- Working in multidisciplinary national and international teams with the aim of fostering well-being, value creation and sustainability for people and places.
Our Journey
Up to 2022/2023:
Alongside direct and indirect contributions to national and international projects, we built a strong network of contacts and collaborations. This period was essential to deepen our understanding of European programme evolution and to prepare for broader participation.
From 2022/2023 onwards:
We reinforced our involvement in diverse initiatives and expanded our national and international network. We joined and supported multiple European research and innovation projects and began participating as partners in Horizon Europe projects (FOREST4EU, ECHO Soil, GREENCOOP), strengthening our experience, credibility and delivery capacity.
Selected research projects:
POLRURA – Policies, Rurality, Diversity and Development (Portugal 2020; coordinated by cE3c / Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon)
JobToc – Youth in rural territories: opportunities and constraints (Portugal 2020; coordinated by cE3c / Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon)
